Constructivism Trends In Moscow Architecture

In Russia Constructivism is one architectural style that appeared ahead of its time. Russian architects began to develop it more or less immediately after the Great October Revolution in 1917, and the style that is also known as the aesthetics of straight corners, emerged in Moscow in 1919-20.

One of the most famous examples of Constructivism, the style which combines straight lines and various forms such as cylinders, squares, rectangles, cubes and so on, is the world-famous Lenin mausoleum in the center of Red Square. It was designed in 1924 by architect Alexei Shchusev.

The style does not only exploit the opposition between different forms and models, but it also plays on the contrast of different surfaces: rough walls (decorated with granite chips) and windows. Windows are usually either strictly square or rectangular. They can also be horizontal like giant ribbons wrapped around an entire building. Ideally, there are round windows, too, usually at the very top of the building.

The earliest buildings designed by architects Konstantin Melnikov, Ilya Golosov, the Vesniny brothers, Moisei Ginzburg and many others, appeared in 1925 as the country was just emerging from WWI and had no money for new construction. Constructivism did not live for long, only until 1931-33. There are about 600 Constructivism-style buildings in the Russian capital today.

Private mansions were things of the past, the revolutionaries decided, and it was time to build public buildings instead: communal houses, factories doubling as communal kitchens, workers clubs and office buildings.

Besides the mausoleum, another famous Constructivist building is the newspaper Izvestia offices at 5 Pushkin Square. While looking very business-like, it has a number of round windows on its top floor.

The editorial offices of Pravda on 24 Pravda Street also belong to the style, a rectangular building fitted out almost entirely with windows.

Then there is this amazing department store near metro 1905 Goda on the corner of Krasnaya Presnya street and Presnenskaya Zastava, the one with the Benetton sign on it. It occupies a small area and looks like a triangle with its top cut off. On one side a huge window rises from the first to the third floor.

Constructivist buildings began to undergo considerable reconstruction after 1930-33, when the political situation in the country had changed. The new functionaries called the famed style poor, rough and bourgeois, saying it made the city look ugly. Later on, it was replaced with what later became known as Stalin Empire style (It is sufficient to mention the seven almost undistinguishable skyscrapers that dominate the city skyline.)

In the 1940s and 1950s, the Constructivist architects were denied the chance to work, so some of them either gave up architectural design altogether, while others resorted to teaching.

The architects returned to Constructivism after 1958, when they designed a lot more public buildings such as the hotels Yunost, Sputnik, Luzhniki, and Orlyonok, the post-graduate student house on Shvernik street near metro Leninsky Prospekt and one of the buildings that makes up the Kursk railway station and others, basing their designs on the once popular architectural style.

But all over the word the style gave a push to contemporary architecture. Today, to see the precise, simple structures of the Constructivism age, you merely need to travel to Ivanovo, Kizhma, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, or St. Petersburg. Examples of industrial towns that underwent rapid growth in the 1920s and ’30s include Pavlovsky Posad, Voznesensk and Nizhny Novgorod. There are other examples of such cities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

No To Working In Moscow

All matters related to the arrival of a foreigner in Russia are dealt with in Federal Law entitled – On the rights of foreign citizens in the Russian Federation, also known as the Law on Foreigners. Among the items this law covers is the one regarding an expatriate working in the Russian Federation. Under this law, all foreigners are free to exercise their capability to work, choose their career and profession, and have the right to freely utilize their personal property in any enterprise or economic undertaking not prohibited by law. Like many other Russian laws, this one certainly sounds appealing and democratic.

The dilemma lies in the fact that this law can, at least for the time being, be considered Utopian, but in practice, foreigners in Russia cannot use their means freely, because back in 1993, a procedure was established for employers to attract and use foreign labor. This system is still in force, even with the passage of the new law. In order for a company registered in Russia to have the right to legally employ a foreigner, it has to secure two permits. The first is the permission to invite and employ foreign labor; the second is a work permit for every foreign worker.

The permit procedure consists of five steps, and takes an average of five months with the help of a company that specializes in registering foreigners. This time period, it should be noted, is approximate, and comes from information garnered from the State administration, which essentially means that it could take much longer. If a company decides to seek a permit independently, without recourse to a professional company, the time may drag on indefinitely.

The tour of the offices consists of the following:

1. The first step for an employer who wants to hire a foreigner is to apply to the district employment office at the place where the company is registered, for a permit to invite and employ foreign labor (IRS), a temporary document that allows him to receive the actual permit at a later date. At the Office, it is necessary to explain in detail the reason for inviting a foreign employee, and to answer the question, why can the company not hire a Russian citizen; to present registration and charter documents for the Company; to fill out statistical forms on the Company need for foreign workers, and their future salary; and to provide a copy of the proposed employment contract. The Company must also specify what country the worker will be coming from, and what position he will occupy.

This way, the employer is registering not some theoretical worker, but rather a person he knows personally and with whom he has already reached an agreement about a specific position.

2. After receiving written permission at the center, the employer takes all the necessary documents to the appropriate department of the Federal Employment Administration, according to the Subject of the Federation, for example, Moscow. Examination of the documents takes place without the presence of the employer, which on the one hand avoids additional running around, but on the other hand, increases the time necessary for reviewing the documents.

3. After receiving official permission and a conclusion, the employer must go to the territorial department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD). In Moscow, these functions are fulfilled by the Moscow GUVD (municipal militia, or police) Foreign Migration Department. The employer will be subjected to more detailed scrutiny, and the list of documents he must present will be substantially longer. In addition to the above documents, the employer will also be asked for his last financial statement with the stamp of the Tax Inspector, and a number of other documents that testify to the economic state of the Company.

If all his documents are in order, and the GUVD is ready to give its assent, the employer will have to pay a federal fee.

4. With this permission, payment order, and the packet of documents the GUVD demanded in hand, the employer next goes to the Federal Migration Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MID) of the Russian Federation. This is the department that will issue him a definitive permit to invite and hire a foreign worker, or workers.

5. Having secured this permit, the employer returns to the territorial department of the MVD, migration section, to receive permission for a specific individual. It is at this stage that the foreign citizen whom the prospective employer is trying to register is checked out. The company must have been in contact with the prospective employee, and must have secured several necessary documents from him, including his diplomas, and a physician certificate, including negative results of an HIV blood test, and must provide the MDV with copies of these, along with copies of his passport and visa.

Only after successfully completing all these procedures can an employer or company intending to hire a foreigner, or the foreign employee, consider themselves invulnerable and protected from any untoward incidents in case of a verification or check by the authorities.

But they cannot rest easy very long, as a work permit is good for no more than one year, and as soon as a foreigner receives his first permit, he must immediately begin the procedure for obtaining the next one.

Because of all the difficulties involved, qualified foreign experts frequently lose out to illegal immigrants from neighboring countries, illegally working in Russia. Obtaining a permit is so involved that employees are not always able to complete the renewal process in time, and as a result, runs into the problem of being unable to continue working.

Will the procedure for registering foreign workers on the Russian market be simplified? And to what extent do the Russian authorities acknowledge the difficulties and inadequacies of the existing system?

What Changes to Expect in Moscow Apartments? Price

On the rental market for elite apartments in Moscow, even on the second market, always the decisive leading role is played by the certain exclusiveness from the context of the common market trend situation of the very object of sale, about which constantly realtors are constantly reminding.

Alexander Ziminsky who is the Director of elite real estate Department of PENNY LANE REALTY: “In the second-half of 2006 we observed small reduction in the demand. Reason to that – mass campaign SMI in the media, combined with the implementation of program “accessible living”.

In the end of last year even buyers of apartments in Moscow of the class de- luxes real estate expected reduction in the prices; however, no changes in this segment of market occurred. Now a quantity of transactions sharply grew due to the postponed demand of the recent months of last year. Demand for Moscow apartments, which from all parameters correspond to the high demands of our clients, as before considerably exceeds supply, and we do not see prerequisites for changing the situation.

The number of Moscow apartments of the class de- luxes is limited, reason to that – serious scarcity of construction sites in the center of Moscow. In the end of 2006 only a little more than usually, the so-called “investment” apartments were offered for sale, but these proposals were numbered and they did not have any serious influence on the situation. Indeed if one assumes that in the elite club house seven apartments out of 30 that were purchased with the purpose of investment and they all will be offered for sale, situation on the market principally will not change.

For the last year of 2006 prices for the apartments in Moscow jumped on average 30-80%, but there are apartments whose price increase was 100 %. Today we have offers where prices of one square meter exceeds 35000 US dollars.

For the sake of fairness it is worthwhile to note that not entire volume of proposal enjoys unconditional demand from buyers. The one who is ready to lay out for exclusive apartments a sizable sum of money, he wants to obtain apartment “turnkey”. Moreover the demand is for the apartments with the remodeling of very high level (the surfacing materials only of foreign production, frequently with special order, and it is required author’s project with the attraction of designers, now and then known), emphasizes Alexander Ziminskiy.

The cost of a repair begins from $1 thousand for 1 sq. m., but these investments absolutely reasonable, since with the investment of $2-3 thousand for 1 sq. m. salesman in the implementation can freely add to $7-8 thousand, and sometimes even more. This is combined with the fact that offers for the apartments with quality remodeling are limited. Alexander Ziminskiy: “In the first months of 2007 we observed increase to 3-5% for 1 sq. m per month.

Policy will in many respects determine situation on the market for real estate. It goes without saying, prices of elite real estate in Moscow will continue to grow, but by smaller rates than in the previous years. Now we observe the making of more active demand after the calm for the end of 2006. Summer will be traditionally calm, and in autumn on the eve of the elections also we should not expect abrupt changes in the relationship between supply and demand”.

Kolomenskoe – Tsar Residence In Moscow

Kolomenskoye is located in a wonderfully picturesque spot, on a high, craggy bank of the Moskva River, with a spectacular view of Moscow and the surrounding broad valleys and fields, and of the Nikolo-Ugreshki Monastery on the other side of the river. It is one of the oldest populated areas in what is today Moscow: people have been living here since the VIII Century B.C.

The protective walls of some ancient settlements have been preserved around Kolomenskoye and the nearby Dyakov ravine, and the ravine still shelters the mysterious age-old Zmeiny Kamen (snake stone). In pagan times, it formed the center of a religious temple, and its legendary magical powers are remembered even now. Magic rites are still celebrated around the stone today.

In the XIV Century, during the time of Ivan Kalita, this area became the favored suburban residence of the grand princes of Moscow, and later of the Tsar family, and eventually a palace with all the necessary trappings and accoutrements was built here.

In 1530, in celebration of the birth of Ivan, the long-awaited heir to Tsar Vassily III, construction began in Kolomenskoye of the Church of the Ascension, which would later be hailed as one of the most perfect and poetic churches, not only in Moscow, but in all of Russia. Young Ivan meanwhile grew up to become Tsar Ivan IV, known to history as Ivan the Terrible. The Church of the Ascension was one of the first to be built in the emerging style just coming into fashion in Russia at the time. It is believed the architect was an Italian, who also directed the building of the fortress wall that surrounded Kitai-Gorod (walled city) in Moscow.

The church in Kolomenskoye is a giant tower, 62 meters high, built without internal supports or columns. The dynamics of the size, the symmetry, and the harmony of the entire structure evoke the image of a gigantic crystal growing out of a massive base. During the construction of the church, the high, steep bank of the river was built up, producing the effect of a natural pedestal blending into a cohesive whole that seems to grow out of the surrounding landscape, and creating an architectural dominance of the place, which can be seen easily for many miles around. The unique power of the Kolomenskoye church makes the modern mind think of a space ship poised for takeoff. This brilliantly conceived shape is an ideal match for the theme of the Ascension of Christ, to which this church is dedicated.

The walls of the church are extremely thick, reaching 2.5 to 3 meters in places. Inside is a staircase that ends at the base of the tower. A thin ribbon of a ladder descends from the cross, and leads to a circular chamber above the nave. In the XIX Century, local farmers would compete on holidays to see who was the speediest and most agile in climbing this ladder.

Atop a gallery on the eastern side is the Royal Palace, adorned with sculpted white stone, from which tsars watched the military maneuvers and falcon hunts that unfolded on the opposite bank of the river.

The Tsar Kolomenskoye residence was torched when the Tatar Khan Kaza-Girei invaded Moscow. Reconstruction did not begin until the late1630s, under Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov, and the process stretched out over a thirty-year period. Only in 1671 was the new and luxurious residence, a veritable miracle of architecture, completed. The new structure was a complex of seven independent palaces built entirely of wood, and allocated to various members of the Royal Family. Countless galleries and chambers interconnected the individual palaces into a cohesive ensemble. Each palace was lavishly decorated, and each had an original roof in the shape of a barrel, a dome, or a cube. The roofs were covered with wooden tiles painted in green, and gilded in places. The tall domes were surmounted by Russian double-headed eagles or multicolored weathervanes. The numerous gilded cornices and lattice-work crests strengthened the impression of an endless variety of shapes. The palace had 270 rooms and 3,000 windows with mica panes, and jambs and lock-plates covered by complicated latticework and painted in brilliant colors.

The Kolomenskoye Palace played an important part in the life of Peter the Great. He was often brought here as a child, and visited frequently as an adult.

In the XX Century, Kolomenskoye became a historical museum and reserve, and boasts a splendid collection of Ancient Russian icons and folk art and a number of artifacts from the Tsar former residence. In the 1960s, several wooden structures, considered important from the architectural as well as historical points of view, such as wooden towers, barrels for the fermentation of honey, and an Arkhangelsk house in which Peter had once stayed, were shipped to Kolomenskoye from various parts of Russia. All these exhibits are on public view.

Changes in Prices for Elite Apartments in Moscow

Until the middle of the 1990’s elite real estate realrry did not exist in Moscow as an entity. Most prestigious and most expensive on that moment were what was called Zhekovskiy Dom, which were built in 1960-70’s. House on the even side of the Kosigin street until now considered to be very prestigious, mostly because of its location. The standards for the elite real estate in Moscow have began to change rapidly since 1996, when on the Veresaeva street was built first elite house in Moscow. From that time the basic place for the concentration of the apartments of top- class became the regions Of Ostozhenka, Prechistenka, Tverskaya, Arbat. Until now this territory is the focus of the most expensive apartments in the country and one of the most expensive in the world. The cost of new apartments here frequently begins with 15 thousand dollars for 1 sq. m.

The major principle, by which status is defined and, correspondingly, the price of real estate, in the English-language peace they designate as the principle of three L, in the Russian version – three M: location, location and again location. The majorities of Russian customers for “elite” apartments are looking for them; being also guided by this factor. Therefore, although people talk about overpopulation and about other deficiencies of the “golden mile” buyers are assured: the present apartments of top- class are found only here. As the director of the department of elite real estate Of Penny Lane Realty Alexander Ziminskiy notes, with this selection “the clients value not only the prestige of region and proximity to the center of Moscow, but also the homogeneous social medium, which was formed in these territories”.

True, that for the past couple of years the regions of elite building in Moscow nevertheless gradually enlarge their boundaries. This is due first of all with the fact that areas in the center convenient for the building began to run low. Then appeared new possibilities for the building at the places of the conclusion of large industrial zones, like factory “Red October” (“Gold Island”) or plant “Natural Rubber” (region Of Plyushchikhi) The territories of the former factories give to developers one big advantage size. “Next to each house it is possible to arrange “the territory for the life”, which according to its qualitative characteristics will correspond to house itself”

Furthermore, as some experts consider, that Ostozhenka region is strongly overestimated. Sales on “golden mile” are not as active as before. “When the building Of Ostozhenka only began, buyers, in the essence, acquired not concrete apartment, but concept, dream about the gold life on “golden mile”. Now, when concept is personified into the life, some of its components prove to be completely questionable, discusses Kaydo Kaarma. – The basic problem of Ostozhenkia lies in the fact that it is not intended for the family stay, consequantly these executive and business-like apartments most of the time are empty”.

The demands of domestic buyers for elite apartments because of the absence of their own examples were formed, from one side, under the effect of the foreign standards, with another – under the pressure of Russian reality and stereotypes. Hence the discordance of opinions and tastes. “Because of the considerations for safety, many buyers have great desire to live in the populous complexes with protection, fenced territory from the environment, in the large and remote from the ground apartments”. Others for the same reasons prefer the isolated club houses with the face-control and the limited number of neighbors.

One of the last tendencies on the market is connected with “the passage” of top- apartmnets only further from the center and with the appearance of more major multi-apartment projects. New elite houses will further increase in number of floors. Especially as the attitude of buyers toward a large quantity of neighbors also changes. “Certainly, this size is incapable to ensure comfort of stay, inherent to limited number of apartments club houses. But, as show the results of sale of apartments in a number of similar objects, this does not confuse buyers. The clear example of a similar habitable complex is project “Fusion Park”. “The requirements are erased for the large scales projects: is conducted the building of skyscrapers and many-storeyed houses”, However, this position is not approved by all.

As a whole “elite real estate” – the concept is just as misty as “ordinary apartments”. There is the specific collection of associations and requirements, which answers the typical project, but there is no clear signs and boundaries. Situation with the classification is complicated by the fact that realtors and the housebuilders love to pick out subcategories directly in the elite segment. From their names and differences in the inexperienced user it can hurt your eyes. Deluxe, club, VIP- class or class A all these are considered to be designation of elite houses. “Everything, which is close to them, but for whatever reasons does not suffice to “complete elite status”, it is accepted to call them B- class or premium. “The category of project is determined by housebuilder himself. Overstating as a rule, occurs. Frequently in order to sell, it issues “business” for “the elite”, premium for deluxe”.

In the past year, when apartments in Moscow’s market rose in price with the unprecedented speed, elite segment somewhat lagged behind in the middle rates. Its increase was smoother, but steadier. When during the last year’s autumn- winter Moscow market arrived into the state of stagnation, “elite” apartments continued gradually to collect in the price. As a whole, last year the cost of this form of housing grew by 70%. There were no such forecasts predicted by any company. As a result in 2006 Moscow entered into tens of the most expensive cities of the world based on the cost of habitable real estate.

The today most expensive proposals in the elite segment are concentrated on the market for already owned apartments, whose owners are willing to rent them out for a high price. Apartments in all known branded houses, such as “Agalarov khaus”, “Stolnik”, “Monolith”, are sold on the price above 30 thousand dollars for 1 sq. m. “It is understandable that this purchase can be compared with the acquisition of expensive automobile, for example Bentley, when the part of the money you pay not for the functionality of machine, but for the brand. Staying in this house together with comfort and convenience in the location assumes specific status, for which the buyer is ready to pay”. According to the data “new quality”, the minimum level of prices on the elite market – 7 thousand dollars, maximum – 37 thousand dollars.

According to the report of the company Knight Frank for the first quarter of 2007, the mean cost of 1 sq. m on the primary market for elite apartment composed 16,8 thousand dollars, on the second – 19 thousand dollars. The rate of increase in the prices within this period reached 15,4% and 0,8% respectively. As a whole in the first five months of 2007 an increase in the cost on the primary market for elite dwelling was of about 16%. These data attest to the fact that in the elite segment reductions in the prices does not be worth awaiting. They will continue to grow, although it wil not have the same rate of increase as in 2006.

Get the Best Neighbors Money Can Buy for the Apartment Rental in Moscow

Many aspects of Russian buildings, in particular Moscow apartments for rent still not regulated. In particular, this concerns the classification of houses. “Despite the fact that we have the specialized organizations, any document, which determines the signs of the apartment in Moscow of different level, we do not have, counts the leader of the department of the new constructions of bureau of real estate “agent 002” Dmitriy Ivanov. – It will not appear within the next few years, because it is profitable to the house-builders , on the basis of the market behavior, to move classification first into one, then to other side. The simple craftiness, which makes it possible to play with the positioning”.

Realtors themselves determine how “clubby” the house is. Someone indicates that there must be not more than 40 apartments, others adhere to previous standards. In the opinion of the director of sales of the agency of elite real estate Penny Lane Realty, in recent years appeared the tendency of increasing the size of the club-house objects. Experts concur only in one – the less, the better. The categories “exclusive”, “prestigious” and “status”, “private” still not alien to the audience, to which attention are presented the apartments of the class “premium”.

“First of all, apartment in the club house must have maximally convenient planning, which makes it possible freely to approach the design of internal accommodations, says the director of the department of elite real estate in Penny Lane Realty Alexander Ziminskiy. – The height of ceilings must be not less than three meters”. Specific characteristics from the windows are very important. According to Dmitriy Ivanov, a good form is capable to increase the cost of apartment by 30%. Moreover it is necessary that the aprtment’swindows would have a view minimum of two, better – to three sides. Very important also that the houses of the same class would be located all around: this creates the sensation of social uniformity.

Very important that each apartment will have minimum of two parking places reserved for cars. There are also little-known, but very key points, which strongly influence status of house. Experienced buyers never forget to inquire, where in the house garbage access is located. If it is located near the staircase it is a minus. The Apartment of the class “premium” implies the presence of concierge and maid services, who will be responsible for the removal of accumulated garbage into the packets and carry out to the rear garbage can, from where special machines will take away it.

The area of contemporary apartment in the club house – not less than 100 square meters (maximum – 500). There was a proposal to sell smaller apartments – from 60 meters, but this exactly was an example of the very case of game with the positioning: the owners of apartments of class “premium” must not feel restricted with space.

But the basic sign of club house – is an arrangement in the center of city. “The first club houses appeared in the middle of the 90’s on Ostozhenke and in other regions of Moscow, where there are limitations on the height of the apartment houses, says the leader of the division of urban real estate of Penny Lane Realty agency, an elite Russian real estate company. – First these were houses in the center of the capital, but tendency did not pass the test of time: indeed it is necessary that all communications would correspond to contemporary technical level, and in the buildings XIX century to reach this without the reconstruction is impossible”. A question with parking here arose: there was no place for tenants to park their cars. All this led to was the fact that the old buildings located in the center of Moscow were reconstructed, and became new elite houses.

Modern clients, who rent apartments in the club houses, interested in objects with the uniqueness, “pearl in the rough”. Houses with the winter gardens, the French windows (from the floor to the ceiling) are in great demand, the beautiful and well-organized territory is required. “Furthermore, clients interested in the presence of the conference rooms, where it is possible to discuss working questions, adds Andrey Ufimtsev. – Rooms for rest and guest rooms (with the leather sofas, the lively colors and the aquariums), daycare centers for children, where it is possible to leave a child, in case of emergency.

Of course in the houses of this level services must be managed by the property management company, with high credentials and for the reasonable price rich people as everyone knows, know how to count the money. The presence of the fitness center in the house, club or beauty salon is no longer necessary according to the expert’s opinion. It is no longer so urgent: people find their own beauticians and trainers, they prefer to use their services. Protection is extremely important. “Safety system must be set to the professional basis and include several levels.

Important role plays the face control of the future tenants”. According to the chief administrator of sales for the company “[Gras]” Damir Ayzatulin – to acquire apartment in the club house a person must be recommended by other tenants or founders. “The high level of fortune – significant, but not unique component of the social uniformity of club house” – It is not possible to create the situation of absolute maximum comfort in the house, where live completely unknown people. In our houses the client control is very strict, it is not always exactly known why and what in the client’s form caused the failure to accept application by house-builder. They can ask potential buyers about anything they desire to know before making a decision to sell an apartment, but to professional even half a phrase is sufficient in order to compose impression about the man”.

Mean price in club house $18 of thousand for the square meter. It can reach also to $35 thousand – in the most claimed complexes. However, such expensive apartments rarely left for the free market: previous owners prefer to sell to their relatives and friends. According to the forecasts of analysts, an increase in the prices of the club apartment in Moscow will in 2007 compose 20-25%, moreover in the spring- years the cost of bonus meters will grow by 10%.

There are not too many club houses on the market today. But experts foretell although not too rapidly, but noticeably development of the market for the apartments of the class “premium”. It is possible to build houses with small number of apartments, even in the center of Moscow. For now traditional locations of club real estate – [Ostozhenka] and Arbat alleys – However the potential of these regions is limited; therefore house-builders begin to turn their attention to other regions – Zamoskvorech’ye, Plyushchikhu, clean ponds: they within the next few years can comprise competition to traditional elite houses in the center of Moscow.

If you have children staying with you, the proximity of Izmailovsky Park should be opportune because the Park has many attractions designed for children.

If you’re tired of staying in big hotels in Moscow (even the budget ones) then you may want to take a change of pace and stay in Hotel Korobovo instead. This small yet comfortable place is located at Malinovaya Street in Korobovo, of the Leninskiy Area of Moscow – you can easily reach it after a 10-minute car ride from the Domodedovo international airport. The hotel may be small by the usual standards hotels in Moscow might be judged, but it does offer quite a lot of amenities for a hotel its size. For instance, you can avail of a room with a balcony and electronic card-keys, centralized air conditioning, high speed Internet access, a Moscow phone line (at no charge), use of a TV, and a shower here. You can pay for your stay with either Russian roubles, or credit cards Visa or Mastercard.

And that brings us to the final aspect of staying in any budget hotels in Moscow – be sure you inquire how you can pay for your stay. You might ask if you can pay for your stay in advance, or if you have to pay a security deposit too. When in Russia, we do as the Russians do, right?
